Baseball Recap: Oak Grove Comes Up Short

Oak Grove had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 10-16 to make it five. They came up short against the Leland Chargers, falling 15-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 back in February.

Brandon Stewart made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Oak Grove is 2-1 when Stewart posts three or more hits, but 8-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jordan McCoy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

As for Leland, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Leland's side, Aeden Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leland got a massive performance out of Jayden Visperas, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave Visperas a new career-high. Cole Canter was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

While Oak Grove had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
