Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Newman AAA's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Newman AAA's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to Non Varsity Opponent 61-57. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Newman AAA still got an impressive performance from Lucas Morillo, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. Morillo continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reggie Grodin, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Newman AAA smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Newman AAA's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-3.

Newman AAA has already played their next game, an 82-63 win against Non Varsity Opponent on the 12th. As for Non Varsity Opponent, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 83-72 defeat against Newman AA on the 12th.
