Basketball Game Preview: East Wilkes Cardinals vs. Wilkes Central Eagles

East Wilkes is 2-8 against Wilkes Central since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The East Wilkes Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wilkes Central Eagles at 8:00 p.m.

Last Thursday, East Wilkes lost to South Stokes at home by a 65-51 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while the Sauras are ranked 96th).

Meanwhile, Wilkes Central earned a 60-48 victory over Hibriten on Wednesday.

East Wilkes better keep an eye on Brady Scott. He was instrumental in Wilkes Central's win, going 6 of 14 on his way to 25 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Denny, who posted eight points.

Wilkes Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for East Wilkes, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

East Wilkes came up short against Wilkes Central when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 77-66. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wilkes Central's Jermaine Ferguson, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 23 points along with five assists and five boards.
