Preview: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Marissa/Coulterville Meteors
Valmeyer is 0-10 against Marissa/Coulterville since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Valmeyer Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Valmeyer was able to grind out a solid victory over Steeleville, taking the game 48-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Valmeyer.
Valmeyer had a senior duo take command as Kierstin Miller dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds and Brooke Miller dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocks. Miller is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Tessa Knowlton was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Meanwhile, Marissa/Coulterville had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They really took it to Metro-East Lutheran for the full four quarters, racking up a 46-8 win at home. Marissa/Coulterville might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matchups by 29 points or more this season.
The victory got Valmeyer back to even at 2-2. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
