Softball Recap: Eureka Comes Up Short

Eureka had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it five. They lost 19-2 to the Mineral County Serpents. The Vandals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Serpents apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Kaitlin Cloninger was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played.

As for Mineral County, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Mineral County, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Mineral County's side, Taiylor Sanchez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Sanchez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mineral County got a massive performance out of Aveline Blinco, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave Blinco a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chesney Wilson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.

While Eureka had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
