Baseball Recap: University Cougars vs. Boone Braves
University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Boone Braves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in March.
Robert Estevez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Estevez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Estevez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Elliott, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Josiah Kolin also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
University's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Boone, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season.
While University had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
