Football Recap: Roma Piles Up the Points Against Pace

Roma's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pace Vikings 61-21. The high-scoring effort was just what the Gladiators needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Among those leading the charge was Jorge Tamayo, who rushed for 102 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roma was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 627 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Roma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Daniel Barrera. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.

Despite the loss, Pace had strong showings from Damian Majano, who gained 78 total yards and two touchdowns, and David Melendez, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one score.

Roma now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Pace, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Roma will square off against Port Isabel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pace, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Porter at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Vikings will be up against the Cowboys' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
