Baseball Recap: Gateway Legacy Christian Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Elsberry last Tuesday, Gateway Legacy Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Lions fell just short of the Liberty Eagles by a score of 7-6 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Dario Mendez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Mendoza, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Gateway Legacy Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Liberty, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway Legacy Christian Academy will challenge St. Francis Borgia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Liberty, they will square off against Howell North at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
