Recap: Hillsboro Hawks vs. DeSoto Dragons

The Hillsboro Hawks came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against DeSoto by a score of 64-52. Given Hillsboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while DeSoto is ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

DeSoto lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aidyn Mitchell, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mitchell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of J.J. Cook, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Hillsboro is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for DeSoto, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hillsboro will take on Festus at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hillsboro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Festus likes a good challenge. As for DeSoto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
