Soccer Recap: Winthrop Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Winthrop hadn't done well against Gloucester recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Vikings never let the Fishermen get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Given Winthrop's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts soccer rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Gloucester are ranked 296th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winthrop is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-3 record this season. As for Gloucester, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-13-1.

Coming up, Winthrop will venture away from home to face off against Arlington Catholic at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Gloucester, they will welcome Beverly at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
