The Canyon del Oro Dorados will square off against the Centennial Coyotes on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Canyon del Oro comes in on 12 and Centennial on four.
Canyon del Oro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They put the hurt on Notre Dame Prep with a sharp 13-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dorados, who have now won 12 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Carson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on David Adams, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Brayden Hoyler, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Canyon del Oro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notre Dame Prep only posted an OBP of .355.
Meanwhile, Centennial got themselves on the board against Nogales on Monday, but Nogales never followed suit. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Apaches, sneaking past 2-0.
William Strand was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Canyon del Oro pushed their record up to 25-5 with the win, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 20-8.
Both Canyon del Oro and Centennial just can't seem to miss. The Dorados have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
