Softball Recap: St. Bernard Vikings vs. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors
St. Bernard extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They came up short against the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors, falling 29-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 30-4 on April 3rd.
As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-8 record. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
For St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's part, Aaliyah Medina made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Medina has posted since back in March. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5.
In other batting news, Julissa Perez was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. What's more, she posted four hits, the most she's had since back in March. Jeanette Sepulveda was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with six RBI, two runs, and one triple.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Bernard is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Genevieve at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will take on rival Sacred Heart of Jesus on Thursday.
