Basketball Recap: Weeki Wachee's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After a string of five wins, Weeki Wachee's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to the Springstead Eagles on the road by a 52-38 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-42 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Weeki Wachee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joelys Rodriquez posted 23 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rodriquez has scored all season. Reese Halter was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Springstead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Briana Coleman, who went 7 of 10 en route to 14 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was J'Ziyah Munford, who earned eight points and seven assists.

Weeki Wachee's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5. As for Springstead, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4.

Weeki Wachee will welcome Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springstead, they are taking a road trip to take on Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
