Recap: Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders vs. Maize South Mavericks

The Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders lost against the Maize South Mavericks back in January of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Kapaun Mt. Carmel fell to the Mavericks 48-43. While losing is never fun, Kapaun Mt. Carmel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Mavericks are ranked 42nd).

When it comes to explaining why Kapaun Mt. Carmel lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lizzie Romer. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. Romer continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was McCoy Phister, who scored nine points.

Kapaun Mt. Carmel's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6. As for Maize South, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Kapaun Mt. Carmel and the Titans will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Maize South, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars on Tuesday. Hopefully South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Tuesday.
