Baseball Game Preview: Hackensack Comets vs. Northern Highlands Highlanders

The Hackensack Comets will head out on the road to challenge the Northern Highlands Highlanders at 4:15 a.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Hackensack managed to slip by Bergenfield the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Comets came up short against the Bears on Friday, falling 7-1. The Comets' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Hackensack got a good showing from Luis Franco, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Franco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Hackensack saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Darius Pemberton, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Northern Highlands fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Teaneck on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Highwaymen by a score of 8-7.

Hackensack's record now sits at 11-11-1. As for Northern Highlands, their record is now 10-12-1.

Hackensack couldn't quite finish off Northern Highlands in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
