Basketball Recap: Fort Yukon's Loss Ends Ten-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After a string of four wins, Fort Yukon's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Walter Northway Warriors by a score of 54-51. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Fort Yukon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nellie Ward, who posted 17 points. Ward's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jane Ward, who earned 16 points.

Fort Yukon's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2. As for Walter Northway, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Yukon will venture away from home to take on Tri-Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tri-Valley will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Fort Yukon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Walter Northway, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Birchwood Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 21st.
