Softball Recap: Trinity Comes Up Short

Trinity had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 11-14 to make it five. They fell just short of the Hoopa Valley Warriors by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, with their most recent loss being a 12-5 defeat on Wednesday.

Jessica Brown was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Lizz Palmer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Koral Plew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Hoopa Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Hoopa Valley's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angela Hern, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Trinity wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-3 defeat against Mt. Shasta on the 8th. As for Hoopa Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-4 loss against Eureka on the 12th.
