League recap: Claremont stuns Damien in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Damien, who took down 179th ranked Damien, 34-14. Craig Myers threw for 182 yards and one touchdown and ran for one yards in the win.

Chino Hills suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after defeating Ayala. The Huskies had been ranked 25th, but fell to 45.

Chino Hills' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matthew Simko threw for 223 and three touchdowns and Jack Austin had 120 yards receiving. On the ground Louis Napoles chipped in 200 yards. Elijah Taylor helped Chino Hills' passing attack out by catching eight balls for 65 yards.

Derek Bub's team's Simko and Austin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Sierra in both passing and receiving yards. Simko has thrown for 1959 yards this season, while Austin, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 43 catches for 671 yards. Aaren Vaughns from Charter Oak leads the league in rushing with 885 yards.

Going into this week's game against Claremont, the Huskies' Simko needs 41 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bulldogs take on the Chargers. At the moment, Ayala is in third, while Charter Oak is in first.

The Wolfpack moved up to 336 from 451 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Claremont was able to make the jump by topping the Spartans 34-14.
