Basketball Game Preview: Dugway Mustangs vs. Mount Vernon Patriots

Dugway hasn't had much luck against Mount Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dugway Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Vernon Patriots at 7:00 p.m.

Dugway is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Telos on Wednesday.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tanner Thackeray, who posted 17 points. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Gary Williams Jr was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Mount Vernon brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They breezed by Utah School for the Deaf & Blind to the tune of 63-15 on Wednesday. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Patriots had established a 24 point advantage.

Mount Vernon's win came from a few key players Dugway will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Robert Wharton, who put up 20 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Song, who had 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Dugway's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Mount Vernon, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-14.

Dugway took their win against Mount Vernon when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 50-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dugway since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
