Softball Recap: Geneva County Beats Cottonwood for Their Third Straight Victory

Geneva County entered their tilt with Cottonwood on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Bears. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since March 18th.

Addie Mae Habbard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Habbard was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last six matches.

In other batting news, Addison Calhoun and Maci Strickland did most of the damage at the plate: Calhoun went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Strickland went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Strickland has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Geneva County's victory bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Cottonwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Geneva County will venture away from home to challenge Houston County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.69 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cottonwood, they will head out on the road to square off against Northside Methodist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
