Volleyball Recap: Vermilion Takes a Loss

Vermilion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Medina Battling Bees. The Sailors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Battling Bees apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Vermilion started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-22.

Their offense was headlined by Payton Strickler and Emma Gebhardt, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Lauren Logsdon and her 19 assists. Gebhardt was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Medina to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Schellenberger, who had 12 digs and one assist. Schellenberger is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Vermilion's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Medina, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Coming up, Vermilion will take on Edison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Sailors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Medina, they will face off against Euclid at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
