Basketball Recap: Gateway Takes a Loss

Gateway saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 71-59 to the St. Brendan Sabres. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Sabres are ranked 109th).

When it comes to explaining why Gateway lost, don't look at Andrew Leopold. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Leopold a new career-high in steals (eight). Another player making a difference was Christopher Davis, who posted 14 points in addition to six assists and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Gateway and nudges their season record down to 6-5. As for St. Brendan, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Gateway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 54-51 win against Clearwater on the 3rd. As for St. Brendan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-47 loss against Miramar on the 3rd.
