Recap: First Assembly Christian Crusaders vs. Memphis East Mustangs

The First Assembly Christian Crusaders's 18-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. 2024 welcomed they with a 69-48 loss courtesy of Memphis East on Saturday. While losing is never fun, First Assembly Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Memphis East is ranked 57th).

First Assembly Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marlena Davis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Davis hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Danae Kennedy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.

First Assembly Christian are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9. As for Memphis East, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

First Assembly Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Evangelical Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evangelical Christian is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Memphis East, they will head out on the road to face off against Whitehaven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitehaven is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
