Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Houston

Houston took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Mansfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lions 7-5. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Aaden Scantlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Houston is 2-1 when Scantlin allows one or fewer earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Scantlin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Morgan, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Caiden Root, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Houston's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Mansfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Houston will welcome Plato at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mansfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Fordland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
