Softball Recap: Lovejoy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mckinney North

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lovejoy). They put the hurt on the McKinney North Bulldogs with a sharp 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Leopards have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Izzy Guarriello made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Torii Johannes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sarah McGill, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Lovejoy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for McKinney North, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-15.

Looking ahead, Lovejoy will take on Melissa at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their 26th straight victory, something the Leopards surely won't give up without a fight. As for McKinney North, they are taking a road trip to take on Walnut Grove at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
