Preview: Greenville Comets vs. Effingham Flaming Hearts
Greenville is 0-5 against Effingham since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Greenville Comets' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Effingham Flaming Hearts at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Greenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Wednesday.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Greenville ultimately got the result they hoped for. They secured a 47-43 W over Centralia.
Greenville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Katie Campbell, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four steals, and Shayna Henderson, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Henderson hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Emma Veith, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Effingham can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They blew past Salem 61-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Effingham has posted since December 28, 2023.
Greenville is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Effingham, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
Greenville ended up a good deal behind Effingham in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, losing 38-24. Can Greenville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
