Basketball Recap: Merrill Vandals vs. Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals
While it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Merrill was not quite Michigan Lutheran Seminary's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They were dealt a 59-32 loss at the hands of the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals. The Vandals haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary was led to victory by Kerin Gardner and Grace Steiger. Gardner went 8 for 15 en route to 18 points and seven steals, while Steiger went 7 of 9 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Gardner has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Kora Olson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.
Merrill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, their record is now 8-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merrill will head out to take on Breckenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, they are taking a road trip to face off against Hemlock at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hemlock's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
