Softball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton dropped their record down to 3-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Attica Red Ramblers by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 17-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

South Newton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Alyssa Standish also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

As for Attica, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On Attica's side, Anni Reynolds spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Reynolds.

At the plate, Joslyn Barnett was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Nichols, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Coming up, South Newton will square off against Faith Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Attica, they will challenge Clinton Prairie at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
