Basketball Recap: Wheeler Falls Despite Big Games from Cailyn Landrew and Jasmine James

Wheeler came up into this matchup off a tough 48-point defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Etowah Eagles by a score of 46-43 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Eagles are ranked 31st).

Wheeler's loss came despite strong showings from Jasmine James and Cailyn Landrew. James went 8-for-18 en route to 23 points, while Landrew dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds.

Etowah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savannah Aparicio, who posted 11 points along with five assists and five boards. Taylor Wills was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Wheeler's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Etowah, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.

Wheeler wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-39 defeat against Marietta on the 11th. As for Etowah, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-39 victory against Walton on the 11th.
