Basketball Recap: Payson Drops Highest Score of Season Against American Leadership Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Payson). They took down the American Leadership Academy Eagles 72-57 on Tuesday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Payson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Blake Jensen out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Austin Staheli was another key player, going 8-for-16 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Payson was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Leadership Academy only racked up seven.

When it comes to explaining why American Leadership Academy lost, don't look at Jalen Brewer. Despite the final result, he shot 55% from beyond the arc to rack up 27 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Cooper Crockett, who posted seven points and ten rebounds.

Payson's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for American Leadership Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Payson will head out to face off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd. The Lions will need to watch out since the Bruins have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for American Leadership Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Emery at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Spartans have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
