Baseball Recap: North Forsyth Comes Up Short

North Forsyth extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They came up short against the Morehead Panthers, falling 16-1. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly 15 runs.

North Forsyth saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kerry Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Morehead, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Morehead's side, Tanner Rippey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Rippey has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Morehead's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Ethan Horton and Ben Wade did most of the damage at the plate: Horton went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Wade went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Wade has become a key player for Morehead: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Reece Dunovant also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As of now, neither North Forsyth nor Morehead have any future games scheduled.
