Baseball Recap: Mountlake Terrace Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Mountlake Terrace, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past the Garfield Bulldogs 11-1 on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Layton Rongholt looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Mountlake Terrace: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Charlie Schofield and Jack Gripentrog did most of the damage at the plate: Schofield scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Gripentrog scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Gripentrog posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cian Harney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Mountlake Terrace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mountlake Terrace is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. Garfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountlake Terrace will host Edmonds-Woodway at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Edmonds-Woodway's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Mountlake Terrace's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Garfield, they will take on Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
