Softball Recap: Hopewell-Loudon Find Success

Hopewell-Loudon won the last time they faced Columbian and things went their way on Saturday too. The Chieftains narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tornadoes 3-1.

Araceli Velasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sidney Brickner was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Hopewell-Loudon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Columbian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hopewell-Loudon will take on Calvert at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Senecas' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Chieftains' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Columbian, they will square off against Rossford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
