Softball Game Preview: Benton Central Bison vs. West Lafayette Red Devils

Benton Central is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while West Lafayette is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bison will host the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Monday, Benton Central got the win against Lafayette Central Catholic by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Bison have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, West Lafayette was able to grind out a solid win over Faith Christian on Thursday, taking the game 10-5.

Molly Mansfield was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paola Eifler, who went 3-for-4 with four runs. Kerrigan Gooden was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

West Lafayette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive matchups.

West Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Benton Central, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
