Softball Game Preview: Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts vs. Canton Little Giants

The Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts will head out on the road to challenge the Canton Little Giants at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Illinois Valley Central fell victim to St. Joseph-Ogden and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 10-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Grey Ghosts were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Canton didn't have quite enough to beat Morton on Thursday and fell 4-3.

Allison Wheeler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Makaylynne Correa was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Illinois Valley Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.

Illinois Valley Central skirted past Canton 7-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grey Ghosts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
