Preview: Apollo Eagles vs. Webster County Trojans
Apollo has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Webster County Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Apollo suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 55-27 defeat at the hands of Breckinridge County. Apollo has struggled against Breckinridge County recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Apollo got some senior leadership from Jennifer Lee and Jenna Dant. Lee dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Dant. scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two blocks. Lee continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Webster County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-46 to Henderson County. While losing is never fun, Webster County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Henderson County is ranked 37th).
Apollo has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Webster County, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Apollo strolled past Webster County when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 58-42. Does Apollo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Webster County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
