Basketball Recap: Tuscola Comes Up Short

Tuscola extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Owen Warhorses. The Mountaineers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warhorses from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Tuscola lost, don't look at Bryce Ferguson. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Stonewall Strickland, who posted eight points and six boards.

As for Owen, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 71.0 points this season.

Owen got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Asante Martin out in front who put up 18 points and four steals. The contest was Martin's tenth in a row with at least 15 points. Izaiah O'Neil was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 16 points.

Tuscola didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 89-82 loss against Enka on the 25th. As for Owen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 69-49 win against R-S Central on the 25th.
