Basketball Game Preview: Wootton Patriots vs. Walter Johnson Wildcats + How To Watch

Wootton and Walter Johnson are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Patriots will take on the Wildcats in a holiday battle at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Wootton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Wootton fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Damascus on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 66-64. On the bright side, the 64- point effort marked the Patriots' highest-scoring contest to date.

Despite the loss, Wootton got top-tier performance from Chase Mitchell, who shot 52% from the field to rack up 40 points. Mitchell's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darnel Engoto, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Walter Johnson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 70-66 to Magruder. The Wildcats have struggled against the Colonels recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Wootton will need to focus on slowing down Will Kreisle, one of several Walter Johnson players who made an impact when they last played. He shot 45% from the field en route to 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Christian Walker was another key player, going 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points and four steals.

Walter Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Wootton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Wootton couldn't quite get it done against Walter Johnson when the teams last played back in February as they fell 71-59. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
