Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Iola's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Iola barely beat Milano the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Iola was the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over Milano on Saturday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Grant Goodney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Colin Fowler was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Brek Roberts was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Iola lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Iola has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Milano and nudges their season record down to 7-7-1.

Looking ahead, Iola will challenge Round Top-Carmine at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Milano, they will welcome Richards at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Milano's pitchers better be ready for this one: Richards has averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
