League recap: Union scores huge upset over Elizabeth

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Union, who defeated 83rd ranked Elizabeth, 33-14.

Hillsborough's Rob Nittolo recorded the longest rushing play in Mid-State 38 - Delaware this season in his game against Westfield last week. Nittolo's team fell to the Blue Devils as he sprinted for 74 yards on the play and finished with 85 in all.

Joe Maso was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 120 yards on 21 carries as Phillipsburg beat Franklin. Sam Galuppo also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.

Nittolo put up the best numbers through the air as Hillsborough lost to Westfield. He had a total of 13 completions for 172 yards. Nittolo's favorite target this week was SCOTT LEVONAITIS, who caught 4 passes for 61 yards.

Guarino was the best receiver in the league this week as the Stateliners beat the Warriors. Guarino tallied 4 receptions for 87 yards.

Kevin Carty's team's Nittolo and LEVONAITIS have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Mid-State 38 - Delaware in both passing and receiving yards. Nittolo has thrown for 390 yards this season, while LEVONAITIS, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 8 catches for 149 yards. Phillipsburg's Maso leads the league in rushing yards with 356.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Westfield takes on second place Phillipsburg.

The Farmers were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in the league. Union defeated the Minutemen 33-14 earlier in the week.
