Basketball Recap: Redmond Extends Winning Streak to Six

Redmond hadn't done well against Newport - Bellevue recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Redmond Mustangs strolled past the Newport - Bellevue Knights with points to spare, taking the game 56-42. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Knights are ranked 173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Newport - Bellevue still got an impressive performance from Portia Polo, who posted 26 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Polo's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gianna Veetutu, who put up four points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Newport - Bellevue, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Redmond will host Juanita at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Juanita will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Redmond surely won't give up without a fight. Newport - Bellevue and Kentlake will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on December 27th. Newport - Bellevue is facing Kentlake at the right time seeing as Kentlake is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
