Preview: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. East Fairmont Bees
The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the East Fairmont Bees at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Robert C. Byrd sitting on three straight victories and East Fairmont on 20.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Robert C. Byrd beat Logan 53-48.
Robert C. Byrd can attribute much of their success to Carleigh Curotz, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Martina Howe, who scored 23 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Howe has scored at least a third of Robert C. Byrd's points. Kyla Sutherlin was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, East Fairmont can now show off 17 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 62-42 margin over Musselman. Given East Fairmont's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Musselman is ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Robert C. Byrd is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for East Fairmont, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-0.
Robert C. Byrd came out on top in a nail-biter against East Fairmont in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, sneaking past 49-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Robert C. Byrd since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
