Basketball Recap: Cherish Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lee County over Southern Lee

Lee County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 55-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southern Lee Cavaliers. The Yellow Jackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cavaliers earlier this season, when they won 37-36.

Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cherish Smith, who posted 16 points. Smith has become a key player for Lee County: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 6-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Yasmin Quick, who scored 14 points.

Lee County's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Southern Lee, their win bumped their record up to 5-15.

Looking ahead, Lee County is taking a road trip to challenge Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Southern Lee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
