Baseball Game Preview: Victory Christian Lions vs. Altamont Knights

The Victory Christian Lions will face off against the Altamont Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Victory Christian and Ragland, and Victory Christian kept the tradition alive. The Lions were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Purple Devils on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Alex Hoggard and Justin Rowe did most of the damage at the plate: Hoggard scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5, while Rowe scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Hoggard has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jack Crow, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Altamont had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 13-10 win over the Tigers. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly three runs.

Altamont's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Victory Christian, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
