Basketball Recap: Desert Sunrise Takes a Loss

Desert Sunrise was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Cortez Colts, falling 80-22. The matchup marked the Golden Hawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Desert Sunrise still got an impressive performance from Zamari McCoy Denton, who posted 15 points.

Leading Cortez to victory were Ulysses Espinoza and Cassius Henderson. Espinoza earned 22 points along with seven assists and four steals, while Henderson went 8 for 12 en route to 20 points in addition to five boards and five steals. With that strong performance, Espinoza is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Kaden Ramirez was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points.

Desert Sunrise's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Cortez, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Desert Sunrise wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-65 win against Tempe on the 22nd. As for Cortez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-64 victory against Yuma on the 22nd.
