Football Recap: Hueytown Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Hueytown fought the good fight in their overtime game against Mountain Brook on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 30-27. The Golden Gophers were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Hueytown lost, don't look at Quentrell Jackson. Despite the final result, he picked up 103 receiving yards and one score.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Brook to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cayden Hofbauer, who rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, and also threw for 125 yards and a pair of TDs. Hofbauer got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 52 yards. Mountain Brook's leading receiver Sam Smith was Hofbauer's top target yet again, picking up 98 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Hueytown's record now sits at 0-2. As for Mountain Brook, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Hueytown and Mountain Brook will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Golden Gophers will square off against rival Paul W. Bryant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mountain Brook is set to challenge their familiar foe Pell City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
