Softball Recap: Utica Beats Philo for Their Third Straight Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Utica ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Philo Electrics. Winning may never get old, but the Redskins sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cheyene Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over eight innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaitlin Evans, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Kiersten Hull was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Utica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in four consecutive contests.

Utica picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 7-8. As for Philo, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Utica will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Electrics: the pair will be back at it again later today.
