This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Hartford and Rice Memorial, 3rd and 5th in the power rankings, respectively. Hartford finished its game with a 21 - 8 win. Despite its victory, the team was passed up by other teams in the power rankings and gave up one spot in the rankings.
Game of Inches
It doesn't get any closer than a one-point game, and that was the margin of last week's closest contest, which featured thrill-seekers Bellows Free Academy and Rutland. Bellows Free Academy won an extremely close contest against Rutland with a final score of 29 - 28. Hopefully the win is satisfying enough on its own since Bellows Free Academy actually slipped one place in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
There were a lot of high-scoring contests in the power rankings last week, but the 93-point effort in this one put it right at the top of the list. Mt. Mansfield got a somewhat close 50 - 43 victory over Brattleboro. As a result, Mt. Mansfield rose three spots in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Fair Haven (2nd in the power rankings) and Burr & Burton (1st). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
