Basketball Game Preview: Genoa Christian Academy vs. Newark Catholic Green Wave

Two dominant guards in Leah Kinley and Sophie Chard Peloquin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Genoa Christian Academy will be taking part in a tournament against the Newark Catholic Green Wave at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Genoa Christian Academy will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Tree of Life Christian, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. Genoa Christian Academy strolled past Tree of Life Christian with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 47-28. Given Genoa Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Tree of Life Christian is ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kinley was her usual excellent self, going 7 for 10 en route to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbie Kirwin, who posted seven points along with seven boards and four blocks.

Meanwhile, Newark Catholic waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 57-34 win. The Green Wave pushed the score to 44-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Redskins had little chance of recovering from.

Genoa Christian Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Newark Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
