Football Game Preview: Johnson Jaguars vs. SA Roosevelt Rough Riders

Johnson is 9-1 against SA Roosevelt since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Jaguars will face off against the Rough Riders at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Johnson has four straight wins, SA Roosevelt has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Saturday, Johnson didn't have too much trouble with Brandeis as they won 45-28. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Broncos are ranked 270th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Johnson's victory came down to the chemistry between Elvis Estrada and his top target Bryson Thompson. Estrada threw for 324 yards while completing 80.6% of his passes while Thompson picked up 123 receiving yards and two scores. That's the most passing yards Estrada has posted since back in September of 2024.

Meanwhile, SA Roosevelt played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Reagan, falling 43-18.

SA Roosevelt's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Johnson, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Everything came up roses for Johnson against SA Roosevelt in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 55-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
